It is based on OpenStreetMaps, so I could see a little known trail in the middle of the Cederberg mountains in South Africa. The great thing though with OpenStreetMaps is, if something dos nor exist, you can just add it yourself.
It installs on iOS and Android phones (including from F-Droid and Obtanium), but I was also pleased to see a Flatpak install for Linux desktops as well.

4 Mallyan Spout Waterfall
Visit the moorland village of Goathland and the tallest waterfall in the North York Moors National Park flowing into a sheltered gully.

Good day!

I do love the forest, but some know just what to say to me to soothe my soul.

After more storms yesterday, a deeper pattern of cool will take hold this week.

Meanwhile, Im aiming to finish my novel scan. Ill walk, then dive into that.

Be everwell.

5 Vasquez Rocks, CA
New photos, and a revisit of one of the most recognizable movie and television backdrops. Also a great hiking location!

Good day!

Sometimes, life aligns.

Fridays hike in the clouds wasnt planned. Id planned a different hike known for often being muddy. When it rained the night before I changed my plans.

Chores this morning, then a walk, and then the novel scan.

Be everwell.

4 Black Hambleton, North Yorkshire UK
Hiking on part of an ancient route that spans England. Bonus: it starts and finishes at a pub.

Good day!

I hiked into the clouds yesterday & it was magical & perfect for this fantasy writer.

After my walk, which will seem short, Ill continue the novel scan for Book-3 & finish some chores around the apartment.

The scan is over 67% complete.

Some pics from my 11.8 km long walk last Thursday. This is the Nervin Linear Park. A green way along the Nervin river from Llodio to Amurrio, in Basque Country, Spain. A very nice afternoon far from people and surrounded by the countryside.

Smudges of gold and rippling waters sunset, version 2. Scoville Reservoir, Wolcott, Connecticut. June 20, 2020, 8:38 PM.

5 Cat Bells, Keswick UK
Some more photos from our highly recommended recent Lake District hike.

Gnarled old red cedar, "Giant's Toes" cliff walk, Sleeping Giant State Park, Hamden, Connecticut. August 13, 2024, 3:48 PM.

Good day!

Another cool night means a cool walk this morning. It also meant better sleep.

Ill continue the novel scan today, of course, and try to fit in some cleaning.

Tomorrow is another hike. I made some adjustments to my pack so Im pretty excited.

Be everwell.

5 Cat Bells, Keswick UK
Massively popular for good reason, this 3-4 mile hike has unparalleled Lake District views. Approach by ferry from Keswick, or car (if you're feeling lucky)

Someone hopped off the trail for a brief romp through the mud

4 Stock Ghyll Force Waterfall
Find this impressive waterfall at the end of a pleasant short woodland stroll from Ambleside in the UK's Lake District National Park.

Good day!

Wow, did it get cold last night. Brrr

I love it!

Ive passed the midpoint on the novel scan and am pleased with the results. Ill continue today after my walk.

The sun hasnt risen yet, a noticeable change of late.

Be everwell.

Trail or squiggle, which do you choose

October sunset at the reservoir. New Britain Reservoir, Wolcott, Connecticut. October 12, 2019, 6:00 PM.

My new virtual run video is live! This is a 6.4 mile run through Jay Cooke State Park near Duluth, Minnesota. Check it out the next time you're stuck on the treadmill or just wanting something dumb and relaxing on the TV.

The very fleeting emerald green of early spring. Woodtick Trail, Wolcott, Connecticut. May 13, 2020, 6:46 PM.

Good day!

A full day ahead. Ill walk, publish a poem on my blog, draft Thursdays blog post, and continue the novel scan on Book-3.

Organization and planning always save me. The poem is ready. I have notes for the blog.

Picture: Spring Gulch Trail.

Be everwell.

Welcome to Little Larch Mountain

Deep blue twilight sunset. Scoville Reservoir, Wolcott, Connecticut. August 27, 2019, 8:00 PM. My favorite sunsets linger on into the twilight.

Cotton candy sunset. New Britain Reservoir, Wolcott, Connecticut. September 8, 2020, 7:19 PM.

Good day!

I need to buckle down and stay on task today. Good political news is also a distraction.

Hope does that, and I wont complain. Managing my time is always up to me.

A walk comes first, then the novel scan on Book-3.

Be everwell.

Misty orange sunset. Scoville Reservoir, Wolcott, Connecticut. July 8, 2020, 8:21 PM.

My trusty companion stands watch over the trail as I dawdle on my photography
I really like the splash of color these marsh pea (Lathyrus palustris ()) flowers give to the scene here

Yay!

Both devices in airplane mode. Offline map tiles downloaded to iPhone app. Apple Watch fetches them pretty fast as you browse the map

Good day!

Im loving our cool nights and mild days. Each morning walk is an invigorating joy.

Ill do more work on the Book-3 novel scan today, plus laundry.

Each day is feeling like a countdown to publishing, a self-imposed stress I need to manage. I will.

Be everwell.

My brother's dog, Nutmeg, keeping watch (sort of), Beaver Pond, White Memorial Foundation, Morris, Connecticut. August 1, 2023, 3:23 PM.

Good day!

A walk and a full day of working on Book-3s novel scan awaits.

Im taking it a little easy today after a 9.9 mile (16K) hike yesterday. It truly was a gorgeous hike that connected Spring Gulch, the Wallman Trail, and the Rattlesnake Trail.

Ill leave you with one sight and sound.

Be everwell.

Quiet summer sunset at Lost Ponds. Mattatuck State Forest, Plymouth, Connecticut. July 5, 2021, 7:00 PM.
