Make an Art Trail

September 23, 1983: The AT followed the Arnold Trail for almost two miles. It crossed a flat, very boggy area surrounding the inlet stream for Middle Carry Pond but stayed well to the north and out of sight of the pond itself.

Little Etobicoke Creek Trail - from the top of the stairs at the end, where the loop back is.

September 28, 1983: At the bottom of the long descent from the Chairback range was the second-biggest water ford on the Appalachian Trail: the West Branch of the Pleasant River.

July 13, 1983: On the other side of I-70, the stiff climb up Pine Knob was a harbinger of things to come. I had been told that the AT becomes much more rugged in the northern half of Maryland.

Just a short clip from several minutes of video.

Went for a long ride on a cold and drizzly day. The trail crosses a railroad trestle high above the river. Stopped there for a rest and was joined by a curious raven who paid me a visit. He/she was still there when I rode away. Beautiful birds.

Yet another ice and snow free February day in southern New England. Looking more like November than February, Giant's Chest, Sleeping Giant State Park, Hamden, Connecticut. February 15, 2023, 4:35 PM.

Work day on the mt bike trails today. Lots of folks and their kids showed up, some with questionable contributions but it's all good.

It's still kind of wet around the Little Etobicoke Creek Trail. I took advantage of the reflection opportunities. - Mississauga, Ontario.

Show me your reflection shots below.

Another round of pics at the Chippewa Nature Center, a trail that my wife and I walked in which I thought looked really nice, and some pics of the cabin that was near the entrance of this section of the nature center. Shot in June, 2023.

September 29, 1983: The higher slopes of Boardman were decked out mostly in the dusky teals of a spruce-fir forest, but streaks of color added bright accents. Now miles away, the ridges and ravines of the Whitecap Range were visible in great detail in the crystalline air.

August 31, 1983: The Appalachian Trail followed some dirt roads through a pleasant farm valley encircled by mountains and reentered the forest to begin a rather taxing climb up to Holts Ledge, the first real mountain it had thus far traversed in New Hampshire. It kept turning onto one woods road after another, and each was a bit steeper than the preceding one.

September 24, 1983: From the bank, it all looked so peaceful. Golden sun-drops swirled innocently over foam-flecked blue and soft breezes stirred the pines. The initial fifteen or twenty yards to the gravel bar was almost anticlimactic. The current was strong, but the water was barely ankle-deep.

The coming storm. Sky over Whitestone Cliffs Trail, Plymouth, Connecticut. September 6, 2018, 4:46 PM.

July 7, 1983: A ledge just above the AT along the ascent had a 180-degree view stretching from southwest to northwest. To the south, Skyline Drive snaked around Hogback's green summits and followed the Blue Ridge towards Stony Man, Hawksbill and beyond.

Concrete Creations in Brooklyn, Nova Scotia

A strange collection of sculptures resides along a trail in Nova Scotia.

If All Trails hasnt gotten you completely lost at least once are you even doing trails

17 was going for a hike this afternoon, I asked if she knew the route I got All Trails, well be good

3 hours later they get home we were definitely hiking on the side of the road for a while. The straight line wasnt straight lining

(They were in the Garden of the Gods, civilization is never more than 5 minutes away)

June 30, 1983: In the Virginia Blue Ridge, high atop a shoulder of a mountain called The Priest, not far from the 4063-foot summit, a spur ridge makes a perpendicular intersection with the main crest.

This balancing rock is one of Utah&s most unusual geological formations.

An old rail track in Northern California could become a 300-mile hiking trail

Wild mushrooms I saw on a hike back in the summer of 2011. Too much green and lack of variety to make it an art print (for me, at least) so it's been gathering dust on my hard drives over the past thirteen years.

First signs of spring. Appalachian Trail, Prospect Mountain, Salisbury, Connecticut. April 8, 2024, 4:20 PM. Tufts of green grass and tiny new leaves on the prickly underbrush.

Pictured: Pen Mar Park from High Rock.
July 14, 1983: Entering Pen Mar Park was a relief. In the years around 1900, this spot was billed as the Coney Island of the Blue Ridge, with an amusement park, seven hotels and about a hundred boarding houses. After years of slow decline, the park was forced out of business by World War II gas rationing in 1943.
