Found objects seen on my morning hike along the Slaughter Creek trails in southwest Austin, Texas, USA.

What a night. I ran from one crisis to another, unable to solve any of themin my dreams.

I woke sitting up.

Fortunately, I found only Evie Cat.

This morning, Ill all but run down the walking path with my trekking poles & let it all go. Then, Ill revise.

0.3 mi Moderate A gem of a waterfall hidden in Nash Stream Forest, north of the White Mountains. Combine with a hike to Sugarloaf Mt or the Percy Peaks.

Really poor nights sleep last night

We had an unusually warm spring, cool summer, & now were unusually warm heading into autumn.

Its like we have one temperature no matter the season. I am, though, noticing the days becoming shorter, my walks dimmer.

Its been difficult to wake up because its been so cool at night. I havent been sleeping like the dead, Ive been sleeping like the extra dead.

Does there come an age when I shouldnt joke about that

It's a new trail for me. I'm looking forward to seeing some water in this ravine in the winter.
I saw a tiny snake, several ravens, and four mountain cyclists.

Nothing clears my mind like a solo hike on very quiet, arid trails. I hiked for more than two hours yesterday, and I only saw four mountain cyclists.
Found this strange rock is this a fossil
As a reference, the rock is as twice as big as my head, and the sharp dark horizontal lines are shadows of grasses.

Weve slipped back into summer weather with highs in the low 70sF (20sC) & lows in the low 50sF (10sC).

So, extremely pleasant.

I continue to do my speed walking, which seems to attract attention. Apparently, adding my trekking poles makes me an athlete.

After my mountain ascent yesterday, I outlined the weekly blog post & edited a short chapter.

I was inspired.

I did eat dinner while editing, which was fine. Its seldom that I do that, & I was thrilled with the chapter.

And with my rainy adventure.

mi-chemin, Flavien poursuit sa qute en Nouvelle-Zlande

Flavien se trouve mi-parcours de son priple au cur de la Nouvelle-Zlande. Chaque jour lui rserve une nouvelle preuve autant quun merveillement. Une tente monte sous la lune, un matelas dgonfl, des nuits somnoler sur le sige passager... mais aussi des panoramas de fellfields dune austrit poignante, o la lumire rveille les pierres et les fleurs alpines.

Loin des itinraires baliss et touristiques, il gravit des chemins que mme sa voiture ne peut plus suivre. Dans ce nouvel pisode, il partage avec simplicit ses rencontres avec des gens simples, des paysages nus, des silences qui parlent et ces moments de doute comme de grce. O chaque instant se vit dans lintensit et le moment prsent.

Good day!

I intended a short hike in the drizzle.

1st, I dropped my phone & had to double back (its OK). Then a downpour.

My distance minimal, I almost turned back, but refused.

The rain let up. Inspired, I charged up the trail & ended up climbing Mt. Sentinel!

Too many short nights caught up to me last night & I had all I could do to reach my bed.

I then slept like the dead for a full eight hours, something I seldom do. The air was cool, a light rain falling.

Now, Im struggling to wake up, but feel better.

Exploring new trails

And now for a timeline cleanse after my last (followers only) post. Here are some photos from a hike I took last week!

This was a lovely trail that had several places where I would have just sat a while if I had the time. Alas, the sunsets are getting earlier and earlier.

I also wanted to get down to a dry part of the river but wasn't sure of the ground conditions down there, or if it would have been easy enough to get back up.

Sometimes, nature & my imagination dance together on the trail, like looking through a foliage window into the past.

Autumn seems to excel at that. Its my gothic season, and oh how I love to step outside & embrace it.

It calls to me.

I wonder how long I'd have to lie on the trail before turning to stone.

An old tree, the lower part still standing. But it has also been carved out from the inside, probably by ants or other small forest life forms.

At a time when it feels like we have no control, I went on a speed walk yesterday using my trekking poles.

4.2 miles (6.8K).

How speedy 16 minutes/mile.

Its part of focusing on my health, becoming more fit, & losing weight. My lungs are thanking me.

Es war sehr windig.
Leider nicht alles perfekt, aber am Ende trotzdem gut!

Bin das heute zum 2. Mal gefahren und das 1. Mal mit dem Propain Tyee. Ist doch viel leichter zu fahren als mit dem alten bike. Trotzdem taten meine Hnde ziemlich weh danach.
Nix mehr gewohnt!

I had to scramble yesterday to create time to watch the game. In truth, I watched while eating dinner, cleaning the kitchen, & doing laundry.

Its much cooler, signs of autumn everywhere, even in town. Were also having intermittent showers.
