Amazing Art Trails from around the World.

Got back out on the trails today after a month long break.

This time of year, with clouds and a low horizon Sun, is uniquely picturesque

Talk about recycling! A story about local governments and nonprofit/tribal partners working together in a very smart and creative way to advance a bold trail network.

As always, our Maple Lane, Grand Allee, Deer Run, Springbank and Newman remain open to the public from sunrise to sunset year-round. This frosty and foggy view of the Osprey trail was taken October 2016. The photographer is unknown.

May 10, 1983: More than 5500 feet in height, Standing Indian is by far the highest summit yet for a northbound Appalachian Trail hiker. There would be no higher summits ahead until the Great Smoky Mountains. Decades later, you could still see the traces on the grassy summit of the old fire tower that was removed in the 1950s.

September 1, 1983: I flipped through the register, finding comment after comment about the magnificent view from the fabled Smarts Mountain privy. I shrugged my shoulders and sauntered up to check out the outhouse.

July 25, 1983: The ensuing trail was one of the most intriguing portions of the entire Appalachian Trail. It climbed out of the gap over a huge rockslide. There were several tough scrambles that probably did not belong on a backpacking trail, but the area possessed a certain unique charm (if you can call it that).

Belated for the I played in October.

New to me games:

it took 4 players 4 hours to work out the rules (1 already knew) and play half a game. Not sufficiently simplified from the video game but Id like to try again.

felt like a swingy card game but actually quite puzzly in the end

nice mechanics with spinning wheels but felt easy to make bad decisions early

Simplified-ish Parks but I prefer Parks

I went back and thought about this, talked about it with a friend.
Gardiner's route was likely up Thirteenth Ave, up what's now Park Blvd, what's now Mountain Blvd, what's now Joaquin Miller Road, left on the road that was replaced in the 1920s with Skyline Blvd ... then up to Redwood Peak on foot. ... "I was about to descend as we had come, when I saw a little road leading off to the left in the opposite direction and just for fun I thought I would follow it." I think he went down the old logging road that is now Castle Drive / Castle Park trail and what's now the Cinderella trail, Sinawik Trail, Palos Colorados Trail, returning on what's now Mountain Blvd. Here is my imagining of his drive, based on the contemporary Map of Oakland, Alameda and Berkeley. Blog updated with new image, text.

Der Rest hatte Enduro/ All Mountain/ XC Fully. Ging aber trotzdem gut.

June 11, 1983: Today, I had my first taste of the long, placid center of the Appalachian Trail. There were no monster climbs or killer rock scrambles. I hiked the fourteen miles from Old Orchard to Trimpi Shelter, following the flat crests of long ridges through a pleasant variety of forests.

May 6, 1983: My camera received heavy use this morning, as I traversed another group of scenic ridges with equally picturesque names. The six miles of trail between Neels Gap and Tesnatee Gap featured a long uphill climb similar to yesterdays and some steep downhills, but most of the trail was nicely graded.

May 30, 1983: I had a mere 7-mile walk today to the establishment where I intended to stay: Nolichucky Expeditions, a whitewater rafting outfit in Erwin which allows hikers to camp in their field and use their hot showers for two dollars per night. When I got there, I just needed to pitch my tent, soak in that shower, and head into town.

Diese Beschriftung habe ich heute ganz neu auf einem der wenigen von mir genutzten geteerten Wege (kombinierter ) gesehen.

June 26, 1983: From Blackhorse Gap, where I first reached the crest of the Blue Ridge yesterday, the Appalachian Trail parallels the Blue Ridge Parkway and its extension, Skyline Drive, for the next 220 miles, all the way up to and through Shenandoah National Park.

July 4, 1983: The first half-mile from the hut this morning climbed along the crest of the ridge forming the western rim of the ravine. This led to an interesting summit called Blackrock. It rose above the wooded ridge crest, a huge, barren mound of gray boulders smeared liberally with streaks of green paint.

I took these shots on yesterdays tour on in our nearby forest in , . It was a sunny, fresh, yet still warm . Hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy hiking on these beautiful trails.
