I'm running again after a long layoff and some injury prone years, so being super careful this time with building mileage slowly and only running on trails (no tarmac). It seems to be working because today was my longest run yet. Nothing special "just" 10km, but it means a lot. The best bit is that I got paid while I was doing it as was checking DofE groups out on the trail.

There's no real way to communicate what I saw, what you are missing, and why you aren't planning your trip already The scenic side of . You should come

The view at the top, over the Bras D'Or lakes.. We were just in Cape Breton two weeks ago, but I'd go right back for a few more days here.
This isn't a helicopter ride, save your money and your strength, we're *legging* this adventure

Some of the nicest were observed through the mountains. There was some risk here:
Your view is extended because you are above the dark valley, but when it finally goes dark, you're in the woods, at the top of a mountain, in the dark, with animals that roam freely around you.. You should plan this carefully

It's pretty steep in places, but the trail crawls around the edge.

This is a great spot, for anyone planning a trip. It's a short drive from Port Hood beaches (we stayed there two weeks ago), and Cabot Trail, and there's mountain trails right from the campground
I think there were 3-4 trails, this is one of them. This is a community

(I'm getting to the trail photos Eve, I am, really LOL)

40 years ago today: The beginning of the Appalachian Trail in New Hampshire followed busy streets through downtown Hanover, home to the Ivy Leagues Dartmouth College. The sidewalks were thronged with students and their families no surprise, since I imagine the fall term must be starting about now.

40 years ago today: As I reached the crest of a hill, the composition of the forest changed to a lovely spread of mature hardwoods sprinkled liberally with clusters of white birch. Rhododendron down south are quite a sight when they are in bloom, but, to my mind, nothing compares to the stark beauty of these wonderful trees, with their gleaming white trunks and limbs.

40 years ago today: In some ways, the portion of the AT which I describe in this chapter can be thought of as a connecting trail between the grandeur of the Green Mountains and the magnificence of the Whites. That outlook would ignore the charms of this pleasant country of rolling ridges and neat little farms. The overgrown fields through which I passed

40 years ago today: Took a day off the trail. From 6/3/83: The new trail route, for most of the distance to Don Nelan Shelter, either passed through private lands or followed rural lanes. From the highway, it climbed steeply through high pastures baking under a relentless sun.

40 years ago today: Took a day off the trail. From 8/8/83: I had hiked the preceding four miles without stopping, in one-and-a-half hours. I now possessed a half-hour cushion for my attempt to reach the monastery. I stumbled to the top of the ridge, where the Appalachian Trail came out onto an old dirt road.

I'm going to mark my calendar for next year's Sea to Sound as soon as they tell us the dates! Day Three was beautiful and I want to do this again. What a feeling of freedom to ride for 70 miles the past 3 days, almost every last foot of it on a separated trail.

40 years ago today: A heavy thundershower struck. It was nothing special compared to some of the boomers I had encountered down south, but I was thoroughly soaked climbing the next ridge. That felt like an improvement over the sauna in which I had been hiking earlier this afternoon.
