So, yesterdays hike
As forecasted, it started out cloudy w/some drizzle. As NOT forecasted, the clouds disappeared. It turned hot with minimal shade.
Dont trust forecasts.
There were great experiences, & I returned with enough time to edit a chapter.

Ive been pushing myself relentlessly while editing, but today I take to the trail. Itll be hot in the late afternoon, which is why I go early.
Were also, supposedly, to receive rain later in the week. Ill believe it when I see it.

It had been almost a decade since I went biking, until yesterday.Just liked the way this fern looked against the backdrop of the trail on this warm day in late spring
At Prairie Garden Trust, they have benches all along the short trails. You can enjoy the view from an overlook or sit by a pond and enjoy the sounds of nature. This was a great place to stretch our legs and determine what direction to go next. Just be sure to spray for ticks first.

For as often as weve been unusually warm this year, we at least havent suffered extreme spikes, which we typically have by now.
More concerning is our years-long drought.
At least I didnt suffer a creative drought this month, & went on 3 long hikes.

This snow is for those suffering a heatwave.
Hiking in the mountains, has made me keenly aware of the boundaries between seasons around me.
Winter snow lingers & spring wildflowers wilt while summer grasses turn golden & shy hints of autumn begin to appear.

Around here, only in spring does green define a season. Along with wilting wildflowers, gold is invading grasses in the open areas, which we have in abundance on hillsides.
July means heat, so the process will accelerate.
In the forests, green remains.

Yesterday, I in search of Hayes Creek. I found it. There wasnt much to it. There was a bridge, but I couldve stepped over it.
I also had an Indiana Jones moment.
Once home, I returned to editing to finish the day.

To say our drought continues is to grossly understate the situation. Weve just emerged from our rainy season having received but a fraction of the expected rainagain.
No wonder Im becoming a prune.

Ive started using my editing system on Book-4, something Ill be working on for most, if not all, of the summer.
Our temperatures are returning to normal, which means dry & mild. In other words, ideal.
Soon, very soon, I need to embark on a hike.
